Moroccan Startup Targets Europe and West Africa for Growth

Moroccan cross-border logistics startup, Colis.ma, has successfully raised $300,000 in a pre-seed funding round led by Moroccan venture capital firm Witamax. The investment is set to propel the company’s expansion plans, enhancing service coverage across Morocco and six European countries while laying the groundwork for further growth into West Africa.

Rapid Growth Since Inception

Since its launch in 2022, Colis.ma has made significant strides in the logistics sector. In just under two years, the startup has delivered over 50,000 parcels to more than 55 destinations across Europe. This impressive growth includes a fivefold increase in deliveries over the past year and a remarkable 380% surge in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) in 2023 compared to the previous year.

CEO and founder Issam Darui attributes this success to the company’s focus on providing reliable, efficient, and fast parcel delivery services for both individuals and small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Colis.ma has carved out a niche, particularly among clients in the cosmetics, artisanal goods, and organic products sectors. The company’s mission is to facilitate trade between Africa and Europe, connecting businesses and customers through innovative logistics solutions.

Strengthening Connections Between Africa and Europe

With the fresh funding from Witamax, Colis.ma plans to bolster its presence across Morocco's five largest regions and six prominent European markets. The startup’s future expansion will focus on bridging West Africa with Europe, making it a pivotal logistics player for companies and individuals with cross-continental connections.

“Our goal is to become a key player in logistics between Africa and Europe, offering innovative technological solutions to a sector undergoing transformation,” said Issam Darui. "We are extremely grateful to Witamax for believing in our vision from the start. This funding allows us to expand our geographic coverage and further improve the quality of our services."

Optimizing Operations with Technology

Colis.ma distinguishes itself through its innovative use of internally developed technology solutions, which optimize operations for both the company and its partners. The startup collaborates with a variety of logistics providers, from traditional to unorganized transporters, ensuring they can offer high-quality, reliable services to clients. By leveraging technology, Colis.ma enhances the efficiency and reliability of parcel deliveries, enabling SMEs to thrive in competitive markets.

Support from Leading Partners

The journey of Colis.ma has been supported by key players in the African and international startup ecosystem. In its early stages, the company raised $50,000 from The Baobab Network after participating in their accelerator program. In 2023, the startup was selected for the Plug and Play Morocco Batch 4 Accelerator program, further boosting its exposure. In February 2024, Colis.ma secured an additional $45,000 grant after completing the Orange Corners program, solidifying its position as an emerging leader in the logistics space.

Hiba Mrani Alaoui, General Partner at Witamax, shared her optimism about Colis.ma’s future, saying, “Colis is thriving and well-positioned to become a significant player in this field. The logistics sector is ripe for disruption, and we believe Colis.ma is on the path to becoming a dominant force in the industry."

Positioned for Future Expansion

Looking ahead, Colis.ma is preparing for its next phase of growth, with plans for an upcoming fundraising round in 2026. Several African and international venture capital firms have already expressed interest, underlining the company's potential to capture even more market share within the logistics sector.
