Introduction
OceanHub Africa, at the forefront of fostering ocean-impact entrepreneurship across Africa, announces the launch of its fifth accelerator scheme. This initiative underscores the organization's steadfast dedication to nurturing innovative startups committed to preserving and enhancing the ocean environment throughout the continent.
Invitation to Ocean-Minded Startups
OceanHub Africa, the premier catalyst for ocean-centric entrepreneurship in Africa, extends a warm invitation to startups making a positive direct or indirect impact on the ocean to participate in its 8-month acceleration programme.
Cultivating Success
Since 2020, OceanHub Africa has effectively supported a cohort of 32 startups, enabling them to raise an impressive $10 million in funding and expand their reach across borders. This year's accelerator programme, slated to commence in July, includes an immersive, in-person learning bootcamp to be hosted in Cape Town.
Programme Agenda: Empowering Entrepreneurs
The accelerator programme is designed to equip participants with essential skills in investment preparedness, market access, effective pitching strategies, and techniques for measuring and managing ocean impact. Additionally, selected entrepreneurs will receive personalized guidance from key mentors and industry experts until their graduation in February 2025, coinciding with the Ocean Innovation Africa summit—an international event dedicated to promoting innovation and entrepreneurship within Africa's maritime domain.
Paving the Way for Ocean Sustainability
Startups eligible for participation must demonstrate a positive impact on ocean sustainability, operate within Africa's geographical boundaries, operate on a for-profit basis, offer a scalable product or service in the market, and exhibit clear innovation or a disruptive business model.
A Call to Ocean-Minded Entrepreneurs
In a statement, OceanHub Africa urges startups not to miss out on the chance to join its accelerator programme. By becoming part of this initiative, entrepreneurs gain access to a network of like-minded individuals—investors, researchers, and businesses—all united by a shared goal: accelerating the development and adoption of sustainable ocean solutions across Africa.
