Introduction
East African carrier-neutral data centre operator, Wingu Africa, in collaboration with Gebeya, a pan-African company specializing in SaaS-enabled custom talent cloud innovation, has announced the launch of an innovative ‘talent cloud solution’. This strategic initiative is aimed at developing human capital specifically for the data centre industry in East Africa.
The Vision Behind the Collaboration
This collaboration seeks to train and certify 1,000 young individuals in data centre infrastructure and technologies within the next year. Utilizing a unique talent cloud platform, the initiative will identify, onboard, and develop these individuals into a robust pool of skilled data centre technologists. One of the key objectives is to ensure that at least 20% of this talent pool comprises women, thereby promoting gender diversity in the tech industry.
Phased Approach to Talent Development
The first phase of the initiative focuses on onboarding 1,000 individuals and equipping them with essential skills in data centre infrastructure and technology. This phase aims to build a strong foundation of knowledge and practical expertise among the participants.
Phase Two: Employment and Consultancy Matching
Following the initial training, the second phase will concentrate on matching the developed talents with employment or consultancy opportunities in data centres. This ensures that the newly skilled individuals can immediately contribute to the industry and apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios.
Phase Three: Integrating Talent into Wingu’s Ecosystem
In the third phase, the skilled talent, along with customers and partners, will bring their capabilities to Wingu’s data centres and its broader ecosystem. This phase aims to create a seamless integration of new talent into the operational framework of Wingu Africa.
Significance of the Talent Cloud Solution
The launch of this talent cloud solution marks a significant advancement in building a skilled workforce for East Africa’s data centre industry. Amadou Daffe, CEO of Gebeya, highlights the importance of this initiative, stating, “This talent cloud initiative will equip individuals with essential data centre skills and create sustainable employment opportunities that drive economic growth in the region.”
Wingu’s Strategic Positioning
Wingu’s Djibouti Data Centre (DDC) is recognized as the first and only carrier-neutral data centre facility in East Africa. It offers access to all major international fibre optic systems connecting Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia Pacific regions with Africa. This strategic positioning enhances the relevance and potential impact of the talent cloud solution.
