Introduction
The Mastercard Foundation Fund for Resilience and Prosperity is a transformative initiative designed to bolster Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) across Sub-Saharan Africa. With a focus on agriculture, climate adaptation, and the digital economy, this seven-year, US$126 million fund is set to drive enterprise growth and create meaningful work opportunities for young people, including women, persons with disabilities, and refugee youth.

The Fund is dedicated to supporting SMEs in three critical sectors:
- Agriculture: Promoting sustainable practices and enhancing food security.
- Climate Adaptation: Developing innovative solutions to mitigate climate change impacts.
- Digital Economy: Leveraging technology to improve efficiency and access to markets.
Eligibility and Application Process
Who Can Apply?
SMEs operating within the agriculture, climate adaptation, or digital economy sectors in Sub-Saharan Africa are encouraged to apply. The Fund particularly seeks enterprises that are committed to creating opportunities for young women, individuals with disabilities, and refugee youth.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be assessed based on the SMEs' capacity to implement impactful solutions within the specified sectors. Those who do not succeed initially are encouraged to refine and resubmit their proposals.
Geographic Focus
The Fund is open to SMEs in the following countries: Kenya, Benin, Burundi, Botswana, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, DRC, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
Funding Details
Grant and Technical Assistance
Selected SMEs will receive grants ranging from US$500,000 to US$2,500,000 over three years, accompanied by tailored technical assistance to help scale their businesses and foster youth employment.
Duration
The support will extend over a three-year period, offering sustained assistance to ensure the long-term success of the enterprises.
How to Apply
SMEs interested in applying must submit their applications through the Fund's website by the deadline of November 22, 2024. Successful applicants will receive the necessary support to scale their businesses and contribute to the broader goals of the Fund.
