A New Chapter for Fintech Innovation
Britam, a prominent Kenyan insurer and financial services provider, has taken a significant step in fostering fintech innovation by launching a 3-month pre-incubation program, BetaLab. This initiative aims to nurture and support six promising fintech startups that have the potential to revolutionize the financial services landscape in Kenya.
Empowering Entrepreneurs: A Collaborative Approach
Evah Kimani, Britam's Director of Partnerships and Digital, expressed enthusiasm about the program, stating, "We are excited to collaborate with these talented entrepreneurs and support their growth journeys. Their innovative solutions have the potential to transform the financial services industry and improve the lives of Kenyans."
The BetaLab program is designed to equip these startups with the necessary tools and resources to scale their businesses. Participants will benefit from extensive networking opportunities, connecting with potential investors, partners, and customers who can propel their growth.
Addressing Key Industry Challenges
The selected startups are tackling some of the most pressing challenges in various sectors, including real estate, savings, SME financing, and healthcare. Each startup brings a unique solution to the table, addressing specific pain points within these industries:
- Zereba: An application offering a deposit-free rental marketplace and streamlining real estate transactions.
- Amsha: A savings platform tailored for young adults, encouraging financial discipline.
- Adapo: An equity crowdfunding platform designed to support SMEs and startups in raising capital.
- Chamzetu: A digital platform revolutionizing the management of chamas (informal cooperative societies).
- Pesaflex: A service offering cost-effective bank-to-bank transactions, reducing transaction fees.
- Medicod AI: A platform leveraging artificial intelligence to optimize medical coding and billing processes, enhancing efficiency in healthcare.
Incubation Opportunities: Beyond Pre-Incubation
The 12-week pre-incubation program will culminate in the selection of the top three performing startups, which will qualify for further incubation within the BetaLab program. This next phase will provide even more comprehensive support, helping these startups refine their business models and expand their market reach.

The BetaLab program is run in partnership with Senior Talent, an organization that connects highly skilled and seasoned senior business executives with startup founders. This partnership aims to address business challenges and accelerate the development and growth of participating startups.
