Introduction

Nigeria’s Kredete, a pioneering financial software platform, is making significant strides in empowering African immigrants. The startup recently secured US$2.25 million in seed funding, which will propel its expansion across the African continent. Founded in 2023, Kredete has already established a presence in 20 African countries, offering a unique solution that not only facilitates low-cost money transfers but also helps users build credit scores in their new countries of residence.

Innovative Approach to Credit Building

Kredete distinguishes itself by allowing users to send money to over 20 countries with minimal fees, while simultaneously contributing to their credit scores. This innovative approach is underpinned by blockchain technology, which ensures seamless and affordable transactions. By enabling African immigrants to build a financial foundation in their new homes, Kredete is addressing a critical gap in the financial ecosystem.

Rapid Growth and Significant Impact

Since its launch, Kredete has seen remarkable growth. The platform now boasts over 300,000 users and has processed transactions exceeding US$100 million. On average, users have reported a 23-point increase in their credit scores within six months of using the platform. This growth underscores Kredete's commitment to enhancing financial inclusion and providing tangible benefits to its users.

Strategic Investment and Growth Plans

Kredete’s US$2.25 million seed round was spearheaded by Blockchain Founders Fund, with participation from prominent investors such as Techstars, Tezos Foundation, Polymorphic Capital, Launch Africa, Neer Venture Partners, and DNA Fund. The round also attracted angel investors with a track record of backing successful payment ventures like Wise and Western Union.

The fresh capital injection will enable Kredete to scale its money transfer services to all African countries, beyond the 20 where it currently operates. Additionally, the startup plans to introduce new financial products tailored for African immigrants in the diaspora, including credit cards, auto loans, and mortgage loans.

Building a Comprehensive Financial Ecosystem

Looking ahead, Kredete aims to develop a comprehensive financial ecosystem designed to meet the unique needs of African immigrants. By offering a range of financial products, the platform seeks to help immigrants navigate and thrive in their new financial environments. This holistic approach aligns with Kredete’s long-term vision of becoming more than just a remittance service.

A Gateway to Financial Security

“Kredete is more than just a remittance service; it’s a gateway to financial inclusion for African immigrants in the diaspora,” said Adeola Adedewe, founder and CEO of Kredete. “Our goal is to empower our users to build a secure financial future, no matter where they are migrating into.”

By focusing on innovation, inclusion, and the unique challenges faced by African immigrants, Kredete is setting a new standard for financial services in the region. As the startup continues to expand and evolve, it is poised to make a lasting impact on the financial well-being of African communities worldwide.
