This programme is designed to propel innovative small and growing businesses (SGBs) through their growth phase, fostering significant social or environmental impact alongside financial returns.

The develoPPP Ventures programme is tailored to support SGBs in South Africa that have the potential to drive measurable social or environmental change while achieving financial success. The initiative is structured around regular competitions where selected startups can receive grants of up to EUR 100,000 (US$110,000). These funds are intended as growth investments to help scale development-relevant business models.

Eligibility and Requirements

To qualify for develoPPP Ventures funding, startups must meet specific criteria:

  • Be registered in South Africa.
  • Have an established product or service in the market.
  • Provide at least one annual financial statement demonstrating initial sales figures.

This eligibility framework ensures that the funding supports businesses poised for growth and capable of attracting further commercial investment.

Technical Assistance and Ecosystem Support

In addition to financial grants, develoPPP Ventures offers tailored technical assistance to selected companies. This support is designed to address the unique needs of each startup, enhancing their chances of success. GIZ collaborates with VC4A, an international startup ecosystem-building organization, and Jozi Angels, a community-driven angel investment group, to implement this programme in South Africa.
